I have just finished reading Peter Balakian's book, "The Burning Tigris" Its subject matter relates to ltan Abdul Hamid's (the bloody Sultan), massacre of 250,000 or more Armenians during the latter part of the 19th century the 1915-1923 massacres of 1,500,000 or more Armenians by the Young (Ottoman) Turks, as well as some more Armenians after World War I when the Turks finally overthrew the Ottomans. And even after supposedly becoming more civilized under Atturk's road to modernization. Along with Turkey's involvement in all of these satanic atrocities, Balakian has also interwoven into his book a massive amount of verifiable background. Without a doubt, I was not only impressed with the clarity and quality of Balakian's writing, but also with the enormous amount of time and labor that he must have put into his research. All in all, it was a masterpiece. The amount of people who have died in wars and at the mercy of despots during the last hundred or more years, would be enough to populate our entire world during the time of our Lord Jesus Christ. I believe that there is a message in Peter Balakian's book. Speaking for myself, it gave me a lot to think about but I have no desire to burden the reader with my personal evaluations. I will let the readers judge for themselves. One thing for sure, it will make us all better Armenians for reading it, if we aren't one already. Joseph Vosbikian
