I would like to commend the four independent Armenian Commissioners in the Turkish Armenian Reconciliation Commission (TARC) for refusing further negotiations with their Turkish counterparts because of the way they reneged on their previous agreement to accept the decision of the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) regarding the validity of the 1915 Genocide of our Armenian people by their Ottoman grandfathers. As previously stated, the TARC was supposed to be an independent effort by its Turkish and Armenian members. Their intention was to search for avenues of cooperation whereby both sides could benefit. And as previously stated by our Armenian Commissioners, they were not qualified to dictate policy but if and when beneficial inroads were agreed upon by either side, as in the case of the pending ICTJ judgment, they would submit it to their respective governments for final approval. And since the Armenian Genocide has always been a major obstacle, it was evident by the Turkish Commissioner’s turnaround that they were not participating independently from their respective Turkish government thereby exposing the fact that they weren’t negotiating in good faith. And in this regard, even the most stupid among our Armenian ‘backbiters’, including the ARF and their ‘cheap shot’ artists, have to agree that it made the “holier than thou” insincerity of the Turks even more visible---and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Today, our United States of America, along with the rest of the free world, are at war against terrorism. And as this struggle continues, the villainous past and present denials of all rogue nations will become more and more discernible, as in the case of the Turkish Commissioner’s and their Turkish government-influenced turnaround. As for myself, I would like to see the TARC initiative revived. And if this happened, I would also like to see the Turkish representatives come to the table with a more sincere and credible Turkish involvement. I say this because I do not believe that all Turks are bad any more than I believe that all Armenians are good. Might I also suggest to the Turkish government, along with all of their appointees, to take counsel from the following words that Sir Walter Scott penned a few centuries ago. “Oh what a tangled web we weave, When first we practice to deceive.” P.S. Some of our self-appointed ‘macho’ politicals should also take counsel from the above. Joseph Vosbikian
